We have just gone through a Chrysler warranty audit and have been presented with a preliminary chargeback figure of about 50k. It seems that in speaking with other Chrysler dealers, Chrysler is active on the audit end. Most of our potential chargebacks are for lack of time punches on WRO's and Preps. Chrysler seems to want to generate revenue from audits rather than get dealers to institute corrective action. I am wondering what experiences other dealers have had with the audit and appeal process?

Chrysler has definetely stepped up their audits. As you have stated, time punches on preps (as always) are big. Parts unavailability also a big one. I just talked to a dealer down south that got hit with 128K, and a couple of others that were around 60K a piece.

The appeal process has been successful to a degree. If you can come up with any additional documentation to support claims that wasn't available during the audit, you've got a good shot. Chrysler's debit appeal guide is also very helpful.

As a warranty administrator I wonder how any dealer can sustain a chargeback of such magnitude in their dealership? Even with Chrysler supposedly on the lookout for debits and escalating their scrutiny and audits at their dealers hasnt anyone in these stores imposed some means of self scrutiny and compliance with Policy and Procedures? I agree with the axiom that "If you dont claim it you cant ever get paid for it" but also live with the axiom that "You document every Repair Order to stand on its own merits a year from now" Despite the pain use these audits and debits for self evaluations of your inhouse systems and procedures to educate all that "You must do things in accordance with the Factory rules" but definitely seek out every avenue of appeal and leverage to reduce the outstanding audits debits!!!
