maintenace parts pricing

It would be nice to see a cost average from GM on maintenance parts, (oil filters, cabin filters, air filters, spark plugs, transmission filters, brake pads). This would be very helpful to us dealers when setting up menu pricing in the service lane. With the consistent changing of prices on parts, it's almost impossible for us dealers to maintain a consistent menu price and maintain the profits that we are needing. I feel that if GM set these types of parts to one dealer cost, then we could easily make menu price adjustments at the beginning of each month when the new price master is released.

I'd like that too, but to be honest, we know GM won't be doing that. Depending on your DMS, it could be possible to source all the maintenance items together and have a default markup be based off of cost.

I'm not sure if it's a canned report or something that a previous manager had here, but our CDK report generator has one that lets you put in a group number, and shows all the parts that have X amount of yearly sales. Could run that monthly to determine what parts go in your source and then change/batch change parts to the maintenance item source.

I'm just dabbling and I feel your pain. The reality for the customer is that your price is going to need to change whenever GM's does and that requires a lot of updates as of late. Most of my customers have been understanding about this.... Most.

I have an old excel sheet that I have used to calculate family pricing in the past. It was passed on to me by someone whom I can't remember. Email me if you would like a copy. my email is below.
