GM Lotto Sale

We were talking about the days when GM would have a Lotto sale, unloading engines, transmissions, blocks for pennies on the dollar. Called in from home at 12:01 am the day of the sale, picked up two Pontiac 400 engine blocks, they were from the 70's, held onto them forever before selling. The 283 crate engine was gone, they had a bunch of 440T4 transmissions, took a pass on them.

We had a few engines from those days, but finally moved them in the early 2000s. One was a 231 for Oldsmobiles!

Oh my gosh, 231 Oldsmobile engine!!! The two Pontiac blocks were $50 each, a real steal.

Yes, I remember those sales. I only participated one time. I ordered three 350 (4 bolt main) short blocks, complete with crank, rods and pistons. Got all three for $250 each. Absolutely freaked out when GM invoice came with normal cost of $1,500 each, if I remember. GM rep told me it would fix itself and it did. I was worried though. LOL

Also remember when Oldsmobile had their DRCE engine, "Drag Race Competition Engine", think it had Oldsmobile heads, the remainder were 454 Chevrolet parts. Saw a few around the local dragstrip. Warren Johnson was involved, never saw him race but did see Grumpy Jenkins a few times, once at MIR. That was when you could walk around the pits without being hassled, the drivers loved to talk to the fans up close. Forget who it was mixing nitro and checking the specific gravity with a lit Camel between his lips, left an impression on me.
An old friend had a Hurst Olds, would show it at the World of Wheels in D.C. Linda Vaughn was there one year, she sought him out and brought him up on stage with her. You could see his wife ready to spit bullets!!!!!!!!!!
