July 2016 EPC Update

Post by PartScott »

Anyone else installed this yet? I just got finished with my second stand alone, and the machines are now S L O W!!! Takes forever to do a part search. :( Just curious if anyone else is having a similar issue or not.

Have done all three of my pc's and so far have not noticed any slower than it ever was before. But ours was slow before. At least now there is that nice little clock spinning around and around to let you know that it is doing something....

Ours seems to work okay if you navigate through the illustrations, or if you input the group number (eg. 5017 for brake pads/shoes). If you just enter a generic lookup term in the box, however, (03.element) it will take literally three or four minutes to retrieve the results. This, combined with MyPriceLink is gonna be great!

Yeah, we finished up the last of our three over the weekend and 2 of the 3 are almost back to normal speed. The third, my laptop, is struggling big time. After the baseline update the QLink updater continues updating for (up to) days which is what slows your system down. But don't worry, for a nominal fee you can upgrade to a flash drive so you don't have to manually load all those discs. What year is this? I have to pay extra for that!? What a freakin' joke

Havent done the upgrade yet, but I have noticed that the online catalog is faster than our in house local server based one.

Considering how long it took to update there is very little improvement if any. I was hoping for faster search's by part # but that's not the case. Mine starts slow in the morning and gets a little better as the day goes on.

I like the new jump drive for updates because I don't have to wait and flop discs in and out of the server. I really wished they would have spent more time on the Q-Link updates that take DAYS to run and upgrade there search function rather than add some of the dumb crap that they added. Adding the geographic lookup was to me a waste of time. They really had a good functioning catalog before this one but I guess we can't convince them to go back to the old catalog............ That's a shame because it seems like the writers of this castalog constantly try and change things even if what they have works....We need it to work FAST and ACCURATE and that's it!

is the jump drive faster loading the catalog or does it still take 4-6 hours?

I don't know.......After I put it in it and after about 5 minutes I clicked on install and I went home. The next morning I clicked on finish and it was done. In the past if I had multiple discs I would have to wait because our server only has two DVD trays. The real problem with the updates are those damn Q-Link ones that download at night. After I questioned SnapOn about the speed of our equipment I was told the download from them only takes minutes but when it installs on the server is where it takes days to install. That is what they said they were going to fix. I have been waiting for this update for a long time and I am disappointed with the results. This really isn't much improvement. How can you improve perfection??????
