GM Warranty question

Post by GMpartsLux »

Hey guys, I've looked through both the service and parts P&P manual and I'm still unclear on a couple things. Surprise surprise.

First off is ESC warranties. If we install a customer pay cluster purchased from lets say AJR and it fails after 6 months. AJR would provide a replacement cluster at no charge, but who pays the labor? And for how long? Most ESC's only cover the parts for 12 months.
Second is a similar issue. If a customer buys a customer pay battery and it fails after 1.5 years, Our AC delco distributor provides a replacement battery but who pays the labor on this? and for how long?

We have been eating the labor most of the time on these situations and I'm not sure if thats correct or not.
Thanks in advance

Esc’s do not pay labor, if your shop does 12 month 12k warranty that would be shop covering labor.

Acdelco customer pay batteries have never paid labor on warranty replacements. Again if you sell the battery
To the customer as a xx month warranty “free” replacement then again labor would be covered by shop.
You have the option to sell acdelco batteries as xx month parts only warranty but need to be upfront to customers that labor
wouldn’t be covered.

For me failed acdelco batteries are limited and customer retention has a better benefit.

My all time favorite is buying a part from Napa that failed out of box and Napa tried to deny a labor claim let alone warranty the part!

I believe you do have a warranty on parts from ESC as long as your shop installs the item obtained from the ESC. While I haven't checked into this for a while, this was the last explanation I received.

GM does not sell the parts and directs you to obtain them from an authorized ESC. Therefore, GM provides a 12/12 warranty on the parts from the ESC.

Batteries used to pay labor but they stopped that years ago - part only warranty. We generally cover the labor for the first year.
