What is their response time?
Re: AIR BAGS
I have been scrapping them 7 days after the claim pays. My DMA just shrugged. She couldn't tell me what would happen if it didn't send them back.

Yes. Mind you, this is before the discussion with said rep yesterday afternoon. I had done maybe 20 and after each claim was paid, it was tossed with the rest of the warranty scrap for the week. I called her to let her know and verify the procedure. My question to her is was " the claim has paid...it could take my small dealership 1.5 years to amass a pallet for a return, are you going to debit me if not returned in a timely fashion?" That's when she shrugged and said "she didnt know."JGROSS1978 wrote:Scrapping??? Toss in the dumpster??scott2112 wrote:I have been scrapping them 7 days after the claim pays. My DMA just shrugged. Whoa!! That is a really big liability if you are just throwing them in the trash. You can't exploded them either at a risk for shrapnel that might injure you or somebody else. Just return them like you are supposed to.
We are also a smaller dealer but when I get enough bags we just call them up and they will still take them no matter how many you have.
Re: AIR BAGS
That's why you discharge the air bag before field scrapping it. GM knows dealers were doing this, which is why they offered that 'reward' for sending them in.
Thankfully after nearly 4 years, the RIM of airbags has finally amassed enough numbers to qualify for a single pallet return.

Re: AIR BAGS
Does it just have to be the recalled airbag? Or can we sneak in all the field scrap RIM returns and warranty pretensioners? Shoot between our honda and toyota stores they would love a free and easy way to get rid of this crap. Sneak some of that in too?
