GM-Unit pack requirements
Have you noticed the growing number of parts that General Motors has increased the unit pack quantities on. I'm not sure what their criteria is, but we are being forced into an overstock situation on some items. An example is part #24503681. I ordered 6 and the quantity was increased to 30. We now have a 120 day supply of this part. As far as ADP goes, these (new) unit packs are not reflected on their update tapes.
Thanks GM, your screwing us again!!!

Refer to bulletin # IB03-019 and its attachment. Now I really have to wonder what the people at GMSPO are smoking in their meetings to arrive at decisions that are totally counter-productive to sound inventory control at the dealership level. It is hard to view this as anything more than a no-cost way for GMSPO to create a spike in their sales by "forcing" excess depth on these 50 part numbers.
So now we have the General talking out of both sides of his mouth -- on one hand we have this great (spelled dismal failure) program to help you decrease your depth and increase your width called the "Recommended Stocking Guides"; and on the other hand we ram excess depth right back down your throat with this short-sighted change in mandatory order quantities. As time goes on, it becomes increasingly obvious that GMSPO has less and less credibility when it comes to advising us about inventory control. I'm just trying to figure out how you quantify something that is now LESS THAN ZERO!!!!!!

And many of the parts on the list are RSG.
It is bad enough to keep one part that
wouldn't sell in 24 months, but now you have to gamble on 12, 20, 24, or 30. NOT!!

There are only a few reasons to purchase from any company A partial list follows .
1)Price
2)Convenience
3)Captured market
4)Warranty
So if price is not better and the Convenience of purchasing the item is no longer a valid reason to buy, and the part is not a captured item and the item is not a warranty item that leads one to say . Mmm there are other vendors. It only takes a bit of time each day to slowly make the transition to a vendor that has
1)Better price
2)Easy to buy from
3)Generic parts
4)They have an ok warranty.
Initially this is often difficult since most people are very loyal to their respective manufacturers. But once on this road it can become very profitable as all the generic items on the market (light bulbs and stuff) are comparable and priced very well.
You ever find with wholesale accounts it is often very difficult to have them change to your dealership for doing business. Often the only reason voiced is well, weve done business for years with Tony down the street. Purchasing habits can become ingrained; an entrenched trait that makes it difficult to change. Similar habits form for parts managers who over a period of years of buying from a similar vendor find it very difficult to change. The problem is we get in our comfortable zone and fear change will disturb this fuzzy place, so purchasing patterns remain basically the same year in and year out.
Yes it would or might seem sacrilege to even voice this. Yet all that is left is to continue purchasing without change and say the world is bad place . Purchasing power adds up quickly when many choose to go elsewhere. Nothing speaks louder then dollars and cents.

Only about half the numbers are on the RSG list. If the rest are such good sellers that SPO wnats to pack the in case lots why are they not on the RSG list???
GM-Unit pack requirements
Once we start buying all these numbers in pack quantity from GM, they will be on the RSG List!!! GM's sales figures on these numbers are going to jump significantly when everyone starts stocking 6,10,25, etc instead of one ........ THINK ABOUT THAT!
GM-Unit pack requirements
Talk about not thinking the consequences of a decision through adequately: Now that GMSPO is shipping these 50 part numbers at a rate that is 6, 10, 12, 20 , 24, 30 times what they used to, they are starting to go on backorder. GO FIGURE!!! Sounds like a real CSI-oriented decision, doesn't it!!

How the hell can they call it a Merch Pak when the part comes in seperate packages? I ordered 2 14043704 (the little chrome cover for a door pull strap on a pre 89 fullsize pickup) and got 12! 12 little blue and white boxes, just like I used to get when I ordered 1. This new program is just another way for GM to lay underwanted/unneeded inventory off on the dealer body. Shame on you GM-SPO, this is shoddy business!!!

after thirty plus years, nothing gm does
surprises me anymore.
play the game...
run the unit pk #s on your locator,
look at what other dealers in your area,
large and small,
have sold from their packs.
i buy one, put it on my shelf...
i qualify, no major investment,
if it sells i buy another,
if it doesn't sell after 12 monthes
i make that s.w.a.g. and either keep or
field scrap
problem solved
