Key code and cut charge

Post by Rykid50 »

Do you gusy charge to request a key code from GM and also how much or do you charge to actually cut the key. We charge 10$ to cut ANY key but I have seen some dealers chage 15 per side. We also have the BD laser to cut the new styles and charge the same. Thanks for your input!!

We charge 29.95 for key code but I have seen a lot higher in the larger towns. We do not charge to cut key that we supply but we do charge more than list. If you are cutting laser cut keys I would charge a lot more as you are probably the only one in the area that can cut them and I have heard the mill bits are expensive. You have to recoup your costs.

I wish I could charge a key cut fee! My owner doesn't like stuff like that, even though both dealers across the street from me charge $30 a key, more for the laser keys, but we'll never see one of those machines unless GM makes us get one. We still have two old-fashioned hand cutters, if that says how stingy he is. I've had people bring their own blanks in for Pontiacs and Saturns, so I'll cut anybody's key you bring to me, but I'll charge $25 if I do, and I never guaranty them.

Yeh we charge 20$ for the code and 10 to cut any key. The laser mill bits are about 100 each and the tracer piece is around there also. The cut charge is good as from time to time it will cover for that key that gets messed up!! If we cut a laser key for another dealer we also get the 10 for laser.

We charge $75 for code retrieval. If we supply the key, there is no charge to cut. If you bring in your own key, it's $10. We are trying to get out the key business...way too many complain that a new key doesn't work their 1994 turd and they want a refund. Dont get me started on the attitude they have when you request proper paperwork to get codes. Not worth the trouble.

I have techs beating down my back counter wanting to sell fuel pumps and the like....

We charge $25 to get the code but don't charge to cut the key. Most keys are sold at a matrix price above GM list.

NO REFUNDS on keys cut from the key code.

We only charge $20 for the code, and no charge for cutting. We don't have laser cutter and rarely or never do they bring in their own blank. There are no refunds on any key for any reason ever. I can't help if you wanted your worn out key traced or the key code doesn't work for your car. Not my problem.

$20.00 for codes, cutting is n/c except flip keys. These we charge $10.00 extra to help offset (doesn't even come close) the lease on the BD Lazer.
