Going to the General

Post by dropdeaddart »

I have a job offer at a number one rated full line gm dealer in my greater metropolitan area, it sounds like a great place, my friend got me the interview there, they are very well reviewed through all medians on the internet and in the news, the manager is experienced with twenty plus years, and extremely nice, and said to me we really wants me on his team, spoke with their shipper/receiver/back parts guy during the interview and I got the vibe that he liked me to because of all the gm knowledge ive absorbed through here, I was able to carry the conversation, and they have a lot of counter guys, and three drivers, its a brand new modern sixty thousand square feet building with over twenty technicians. it's a group, with all the other dealers within the city. its got benefits, $5K more salary, same bonus take home amount I do now, from what a hear a killer Christmas party, etc, I could go on, my question is, is going to the general a good move for someone with dealer experience, their DMS experience, but no gm experience.

I am just worried from the horror stories I hear, is it that bad?

What line would you be leaving? Would you be the manager or a counter person? I've worked a few different car lines, and parts is parts really.. Each automaker has their differences...but I was able to jump from GM, to Honda and Toyota relatively easy.

parts counter person should be fine for GM. The manager gets to deal with all the BS :)

Good luck!!

The Chrysler dealer I worked at was great, but yeah, after what has happened recently, that is true

Have them put any offer in writing, be specific, and lock the copy in a safe.

trust me, ive been doing this for years, my father thought me that, I had Canadian tire try to say I wasn't entitled to my two weeks paid vacation until I showed them a copy with the previous store managers signature on it and threat of court
