"PART SCRAP REVIEWS"

JUST OUT OF CURIOSITY, HOW MANY GM DEALERSHIPS ARE NOW HAVING THE "PERIODIC PART SCRAPPING"? THE NORTH CENTRAL REGION REPS ARE HAVING TO REGULAR "PART REVIEWS" ON ALL DEALERSHIPS. IS THIS THE CASE IN THE REST OF THE COUNTRY? WE ARE NOT TALKING FULL-SCALE AUDIT, JUST A RUN OF THE FOUR MOST CURRENT CREDIT MEMO RUNS. WHILE IT IS NOT A PROBLEM FOR OUR STORE, IT SURE LOOKS LIKE A FULL-SCALE FISHING EXPEDITION, WITH THE GENERAL HOPING TO LAND A FEW WALLEYE!!! ANY COMMENTS????

Just had one.....for the first time in, oh, about 3 years. We did awful and our rep pretty much shrugged it off and said "do better next time"......and we damn sure did !

I'll offer no excuses as we all know this is something that should be constantly monitored. But, when literally years go by without anyone ever looking (or even asking), I guess I'm not too surprised that we got a little too lax. My fault entirely....a dangerous trap to fall in to.

I assume that our track record of keeping warranty expense well "in-line" has something to do with our reps' not being too concerned over parts scrapping. Still, it was a good "wake-up call".

Cheers

I agree, your warranty expenses have a lot to do with the parts scrapping. Every time that we get a little higher than our peers, our rep shows up at the door with a scrap list and spends 3 or 4 hours going over all of the parts not scrapped yet. We have had several, mostly due to the 4 wheel drive vehicles in the intermountain west area, which our peers do not have.
Our rep is very strick on anything not there or unaccounted for, and almost every time charges us back a few hundred dollars. The biggest challenge has been GMPP that has ended up being regular warranty and was not tagged and held.
I would say that they are just doing what they are supposed to do, but you must always be prepared - keep a scrap list of all parts, scrap on time so that you don't have anything extra, make sure not to scrap even 1 day early.

Our service rep. has a contract-helper (older x-GM employee) that scraps and reports. He has come to the store every month in the last five but now we are well below peer and he'll probably vanish.

Haven't had any charge backs but a couple arguments, of course.

To protect yourself with GMPP claims hold them like warranty parts 15 days from claim memo. Then if it switches you still have the part also if your GMPP rep comes in you have the part for proof on a suspicious claim
