Just got our warranty "E" and "B" Claims resticted. Seems are Training wasn't up to 84%. We went from 90% in Dec of 2006 to 57% in March 2007. How could this be?

Anyway, we now need to hit 90% by June's end to have these authoriztion put back in place.

My ASM has emailed us our dealer's group training levels, some other dealers are at 130%........How do they do this?

We now know a few things like. 1 tech has to complete all courses in the course area, Cross creits, assessment tests, and service manager certificates for hands on.

Some of my trouble is,trying to get the techs to do the training. Do some of you pay extra?

But how in the world do you get over 100% ?

We pay the same per hour as their flat rate. They do a lot of it at home.

the reason the percentages dropped is because of new course requirements starting the first of the year.
the 130% comes from more than 1 person at 100% level in a particular category, along with the other categories being at, or near 100%. kind of strange, but that's how it is.

as far as getting the tech's to take the WBT's, and IDL courses, we slam thru them during the slower time of the year, like Feb, and March usually. hard to do when you're busy, but print a training path for each tech, block out a little time each week for 1-2 courses, and you'll get caught up quickly. this is a MAJOR topic and concern for the General, and it does affect you're capabilities greatly, i would advise to make it a priority. i pay my tech's there flat rate amount for the training time, well worth the investment. my tech's will do a little at home as well, but i don't push them to do them at home.

Hey chevyguy,
At my shop I have each of the techs train to become 100% in their area. They are paid by the hour as flagged. IDL's usually 3 hours. Web based training 2 hours even though some can take as long as 4 hours. Hands on classes are paid 8 hours. Then once they reach 100% they have the option for an assessment which is paid 8 hours only if they pass and a $100.00 bonus. Also once the techs have reached 100% in one area, they must continue to become 100% in a second area. Then they receive review for a raise.
The way some shops are over 100% is that each shop must have so many techs at 100% depending on your business size. If you only need 1 tech in each area and two techs are 100% in the same area your training levels increase to 200% in that area hence the dealers will 130% total.
I am currently at 100% trained in 10 areas and certified. I am a World Class GM Trained Technician and Shop Forman. There are just over 1000 of us nation wide. It is doable with lots of hard word and focus.
I personally received a pay increase as I accumulated my training.

I hope this helps you understand alittle more.

Every year GM adds more training classes to their line up. In December I was at 50% in some areas. I needed to do the new courses set in my training path. This year there were more new classes than any other year I've seen. Now with more training and dedication to the training process I back to 100%.

We have a system very similar to worldclass. We pay our techs for the hours they spend training and use the training level to determine base pay. In addition, any tech that finishes the year at 100% receives a $1000 bonus.

It transformed our training from a "push" to a "pull" system. Techs are all over training instead of us being all over them about it.

Currently our GM training is 380.3% and leads the zone.
