Has anyone else experienced higher numbers of the 23232310 being defective out of the box? We've been doing these recalls non stop and have had 5-10 bad ones right out of the box already.

Yes I had a few. Looks like this might turn out to be ANOTHER failed attempt and cutting corners for a recall by replacing a component instead of the assembly! They should be replacing the column but they want to try to save some $. The 5 that I have in stock right now do not say where they are made...Probably the only thing on my shelf that does say MADE IN MEXICO or MADE IN CHINA. Is it possible it is made in USA and that is why it has issues? :o

They aren't defective; the tech isn't seating them down far enough, and when they power them up, the motor spins it to try to find center, and breaks the wiring, sorta like a SIR coil.

According to my tech that had 2 defective ones yesterday it's impossible for them not to be seating all the way down because the snap ring won't go on unless it is. The tool in the box has to be used to get it to seat properly and the snap ring to be held on.

We have 4 techs and done 18 recalls so far. One tech had 2 bad ones in a row and the rest haven't had any issues. Tell your techs to watch the video, use called for special tools and follow instructions exactly. Since the tech with the 2 bad sensors watched the video, he magically hasn't had any more bad parts.

We got this email from our GM DSM this afternoon.
Subject: VERY IMPORTANT INFO RECALL 14116

Many dealers have called me regarding the failure of the torque sensor when completing this recall.

We have identified that ALL of the torque sensors returned to GM have been GOOD sensors.

Field Engineers have been dispatched to local dealers to investigate and it has been identified that the failure has been a result of IMPROPER INSTALLATION PROCEDURES by the technician.

Make sure they follow the installation procedures to the T per the bulletin. There is also a video available for proper installations. This video will also soon be loaded to the GM Training Website.

DO NOT REPLACE ANY MODULES AT THIS TIME.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
Note:
For U.S.: A video that demonstrates the steering shaft torque sensor replacement can be viewed at http://wwwcenterlearningcom (or use the link on Global Connect). Select "Resources" then "Video On Demand". The VOD portal will open. Select GM STC from the choices on the left. Search for 10214.07D. This will bring up the July 2014 Emerging Issues Seminar. The video is part of this seminar. Click on the thumbnail to launch the video
