Re: WORKING FROM THE RETAIL COUNTER??
While I agree that working the counters is a nice break from a Parts Managers' job, the job is to drive business. This cannot be done from the counter or spending all day in your office. I spend an average of 1.5 hours in my office, 45 minutes in meetings, 1 hour with administrative duties, 1.5 ...

Re: Delete status -CDK
In all systems parts in "DEL" status delete when MNE runs. The exception to this rule is in GM stores where RIM controls source settings. Two questions come to mind; 1) Are you adding aftermarket parts to the system and if so why?, 2) Are the aftermarkets sold out of their own source or are you ...

Straubman, that must be in a locked area when parts is closed. Otherwise that would be empty every night.

Re: dealer track stock return category
I am in full agreement with you that just putting items on an unnamed shelf is not a good practice, however neither is a "Return" shelf. I have yet to work with a company that used the dedicated return shelf for anything other than daily returns that didn't have obsolescence values higher than they ...

Re: Part Warranty Question
It doesn't matter where the purchase was made as long as it was from a franchised dealership. Get the documentation from the customer and create a repair order so your warranty clerk can process it.

Re: Scale for nut and bolt inventory
We consider it a cost of doing business so it's expensed to shop supplies. When I did inventory audits and came upon stores that kept them in the pad I found it quicker to count them by tens than creating a tare and calculating. As a result the expense of an accurate scale was deemed not necessary ...

Re: Restock Fees
Many companies do it as you ask however it is up to your company policies and CPA. In my stores we use one GL account for purchase discounts and another for purchase adjustments/fees. I like this method as I can see the figures at a glance without having to run the calculations.

Re: What Caused Your Pad to GL Variance?
This is a common issue that was compounded by a Parts Manager thinking he was smart enough to cover his tracks. In order to increase his monthly profit (and paycheck) this store began to rely heavily on purchases from a WD over the manufacturer as he was able to negotiate an invoice discount. All ...

Re: Inventory Overage
The cost to put my list together and the confidentiality agreements from many of the jobs I performed to grow this list prevent my sharing this document. I have started another topic on this subject so that we may put a public list together that will help increase everyone's skills in this subject.
